SHELBY —  The Shelby High School’s girls’ varsity basketball team dressed in camouflage decorations on their uniforms and the FFA hosted their famous soup and sandwich meal as a fundraiser for Wounded Warriors Tuesday evening.

In honor of Military Appreciation night, the FFA donated all free-will donations to the Wounded Warriors program. The night was filled with excitement, (besides the 51-45 win over Lexington in a hard-fought game).

The students of both Shelby, and Lexington, held a huge American flag on the court while the Star-Spangled Banner was played. All veterans were asked to stand in court to be recognized for their service.

All military branches were honored and the veterans received a thank-you note and a military t-shirt. The total donations from the soup and sandwich fundraiser were $567. The Athletic Boosters Club donated the money from students shooting baskets was also donated.

The Shelby girls basketball team is 11-4 overall, 7-2 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. The Whippets return to action at Galion on Friday.

The Lexington girls basketball team is 4-13 overall, 3-8 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Lady Lex plays at Mansfield Senior on Thursday.
