Black and white photo of a rural Midwest town in early 1900s
The Interurban paused in Plymouth

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was originally published on Richland Source in 2016.

PLYMOUTH — Today when you want to travel to another town you get on a highway.

In 1907 you hopped on to an Interurban streetcar.

The streetcar (captured in this photo) ran on the tracks of the Sandusky, Norwalk and Mansfield line, which eventually came to be known as the Cleveland Southwestern system.

The tracks were completed in stages between 1901 and 1909. This picture marked the happy summer when the lines connected at Plymouth. The Interurban era of travel ended in Richland County in 1934.
