WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – A Lakeville woman was killed and two Loudonville men injured in a Friday morning crash in Holmes County, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Elaine Mikus, 77, of Lakeville, was killed in the crash, the Patrol stated.

According to authorities, at approximately 7:45 a.m. the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a fatal traffic crash on State Route 3 near the intersection of County Road 22 in Washington Township, Holmes County.

The on-scene investigation revealed a black 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pick-up, driven by Mikus, was south on SR3, when it lost control and rotated left of center as it traveled up a hill. A red 2015 Dodge Ram pick-up was downhill northbound and it struck the Silverado’s left front in a near head-on collision.

The driver of the red Dodge, David Hawkins, 60, of Loudonville and his right front passenger, a 36-year-old Loudonville man, were treated at the scene for suspected minor injuries. Both men were wearing seatbelts during the crash and their airbags also deployed.

Both vehicles came to rest in the middle of the road and SR3 was closed as the result of the crash.

The investigation revealed she was seat-belted and her airbags deployed.

Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Finney’s Marathon Towing out of Millersburg. Loudonville and Western Holmes Fire and EMS personnel as well as the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted on scene.
