Writers should limit letters to 500 words or less, although there is some leeway here.

A writer cannot submit more than one letter to the editor per month.

No profanity, vulgarity or libelous claims, etc.

We will not publish a personal issue with an individual or a business (I bought a garage door opener at Company X, it doesn’t work and they won’t give me my money back).

We do not get into he-said, she-said situations between individuals, particularly relationships and/or child custody cases.

No election-related letters will be published within a week of the election.

All letters and editorial decisions are subject to approval from the publishing team at Richland Source.

We reserve the right to alter, change or revise these general guidelines as various issues arise.

To submit a letter to the editor, please email news@richlandsource.com.

  1. For most of my life, I have lived under the assumption that property taxes were fair and equitable: WRONG. On March 11th of this year, I visited the Richland County Auditor’s Office, mainly because after checking various properties in my area on the tax rolls I found what I believe to be inconsistent values being assessed. I spoke to a lady at the counter and tried to explain what I was concerned about, mainly CAUV values. She asked her supervisor about giving me that information and reported back to me that they could not give out that information on someone else’s property. I asked who investigated these CAUV claims and her statement to me was quote: “We take their word for it”. Never in my 80+ years have I ever heard of an auditor issue that kind of statement. There are several properties within a mile of mine that are abusing this system. I won’t go into any names yet but I will issue this challenge to Auditor Dropsy that if he feels I am providing false information then call me out and we will see who is right.

  2. A week ago I felt safe going pretty much anywhere in my neighborhood. I could shop, go to my doctor appointments, visit with friends, etc. & never had a problem. Then Donald Trump & our own Rep. Jim Jordan (R) had to start up with rumors & nonsense about hordes of Haitians destroying our city, robbing our citizens, & eating our pets (???) etc. Thanks to them I’m NOT safe anymore! Their lies have caused bomb threats & disruption of my life to where I can’t go out for fear of some MAGA nut doing something against me and my neighbors. Well, I know who I WON’T be voting for in November!
