BELLVILLE — Clear Fork fashioned the final, definitive streak in a game of scoring binges to earn a 56-26 victory over Upper Sandusky in Friday night’s Division IV, Region 14 playoff opener.

The see-saw began early.

Kaden Holmann got the 12th-seeded Rams (5-6) off to a strong start, scoring on a 1-yard plunge for a 6-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.

That triggered the first of two, 28-point eruptions from the fifth-seeded Colts.

Luke Schlosser started it with a 3-yard run for a 7-6 first-quarter edge. Teammate Pawie Ault’s 5-yard jaunt goosed it to 14-6 early in the second quarter. Clear Fork quarterback Victor Skoog tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Adam Vanausdale, and then added a 34-yard TD bolt for a 28-6 lead.

The Rams responded just before the half on Holmann’s 5-yard scoring aerial to Levi Lamb for a 28-13 count at intermission.

Holmann kept it going in the third period, with a pair of long TD connections to Ethan Hill from 53 and 69 yards. Suddenly, Upper Sandusky was within 28-26.

But that merely ignited the Colts (10-1) on a decisive four-touchdown spree to cap the contest. Ault shook loose for a 69-yard sprint and a 21-yard burst to push the gap to 42-26 heading to the fourth quarter.

Skoog’s 90-yard TD pass to junior Milo Burgholder opened a 49-26 spread, and Ault’s 1-yard score with 5:08 remaining finished it.

The victory sends Clear Fork into a regional semifinal next week at Elyria Catholic. The fourth-seeded Panthers (9-2) spanked Bryan 43-0 on Friday night.
