In 1993 when Castle Rock Entertainment was filming The Shawshank Redemption in Mansfield no one could have imagined what a terrific impact the movie would still be having here more than three decades later.

The scene of Morgan Freeman’s character ambling down the North Main Street hill was intended to impart feelings of despair, and the broken sidewalks and sad storefronts north of Fourth Street really served to reinforce that bleak outlook.

Who could have guessed that the very same stretch of streetscape would today be one of such vitality and activity?

Certainly the message of hope carried by the movie worked its revitalizing power on the movie set as well.
