PLYMOUTH — This Firelands Conference clash pitted two teams on a pair of streaks — both of which continued on Friday night.

Crestview maintained its perfect run this season, extending its 2022 winning streak to eight games with a 39-13 victory at Plymouth. Meanwhile, the Big Red Vikings have dropped their fourth straight contest.

Owen Barker was the big gun for the Cougars in this one. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior does a little bit of everything on offense and defense. Against Plymouth he scored on TD runs of 8 and 21 yards, and hauled in a 44-yard TD pass.

Running back Addison Reymer tacked on a pair of touchdowns to push his season total to 17, while Michael Mays found the end zone, too.

The Cougars opened a 12-6 first-quarter edge and pushed it out to 18-6 at halftime. Coach Steve Haverdill’s squad erupted for three touchdowns in the third period to make it 39-13, and it stayed that way through a scoreless fourth quarter.

Plymouth suffered four turnovers in falling to 3-5, 1-4. The Big Red Vikings are home to McComb on Friday night.

Crestview will take an 8-0 record (4-0 in the Firelands Conference) into next week’s key clash on Saturday night at Norwalk St. Paul in a de facto Firelands Conference championship clash.

St. Paul has won six straight after opening the season with back-to-back losses to Huron (41-7) and Ontario 35-19. The Flyers outscored Edon 60-52 on Friday night in a wild shootout. Senior running back Quincey Crabbs ran for 391 yards and five touchdowns.

It was also legendary coach John Livengood’s 300th career victory.

According to the Norwalk Reflector, Livengood is just the 17th coach in Ohio high school football history to achieve the milestone. Of the 17 coaches, Livengood has the third best winning percentage (.789), and is only the sixth to win 300 games at one school.
