MANSFIELD — Studies show the earlier a child begins learning a second language, the faster and easier it is for them.

This is the premise behind the Spanish Immersion School, a free public school associated with Mansfield City Schools for students in grades K-8.

Anna Slade demonstrates how the school gives students a competitive advantage. Upon graduating in 2019, she returned to Ashland High School to finish out her secondary education.

There, she continued taking Spanish classes, including two College Credit Plus courses at the University of Akron.

Now, Slade is headed for Spain for her senior year of high school, where she will attend IES Nervión as part of the Seville Abroad program and live with a Spanish host family.

“Our goal is to provide a well-rounded education while making our students more culturally aware and providing them with a skill that will serve them well now and in their future,” said Principal Michael Brennan.
