BUCYRUS — A 49-year-old woman died after a gunshot wound to the head early Wednesday morning, according to a Bucyrus Police Department press release.

A 52-year-old man was detained at the scene and later transported to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Neil Assenheimer stated.

According to the press release, at 2:07 a.m. Bucyrus Police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of West Mansfield Street in regards to a shooting. Officers arrived on the scene and found a woman suffering from a gunshot to the head.

The woman, whose identity has not yet been released by authorities, was treated at the scene by firefighters and transported to Avita Health System-Bucyrus Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted to process the scene. Bucyrus Police Officers were assisted at the scene by Crawford County Sheriff’s deputies.

The incident remains under investigation and more information will be released at a later time, police said.
