Dr. George Walter Loesch of Mansfield was 94 when he quietly went home to be with the Lord Jesus on March 10, 2022.

He was born in Mansfield on September 25, 1927, to his parents George and Goldie (Boals) Loesch. Except for a few years during med-school, he lived all his life in Mansfield. He was a family man, a patriot, a man of faith, and an accomplished professional who possessed a big heart, keen intellect, knack for storytelling, corny jokes (“watch out for the other guy”) and a multitude of interests and accomplishments.

George graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1945. He fulfilled hundreds of requirements to become an Eagle Scout. Upon graduation, he served five years in the U.S. Navy where he became a skilled carrier multi-engine sea and land pilot. He was commissioned as an Ensign the day he received his wings. George, served 24 months in the Pacific theater.

After his military service, he attended Indiana State College, Stevens Institute of Technology, and The Ohio State University, earning two degrees, his undergraduate in 1952 and his M.D. in 1956. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Alice (Berger) Loesch. They raised four sons and a foster daughter. George practiced medicine in Mansfield for 45 years – first as a family practice physician for nine years before returning to school to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology. He was one of the founding fathers of “The Group” (now known as Women’s Care).

He was an advanced amateur photographer and he loved photographing his grandchildren. George and Mary Alice liked to travel. They visited Germany, Greece, Israel, New Zealand, Canada and every state in the U.S except Rhode Island. While in medical practice, George served on the boards of directors of the YMCA, the Rehabilitation Center, Richland Newhope Industries, and several drug rehabilitation centers. He was a member of Mansfield General and Peoples Hospital staffs. He was a member of the Liederkranz, Ohio State Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. He was a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a life member of the Ohio State Alumni Association. He was a weekend golfer and a member of Westbrook country club. He was a computer man fairly early in the computer world (think DOS and Radio Shack – TRS 80). He was an accomplished pilot in the Navy and flew privately for years afterward. He and his wife served in several community churches and George used his medical skills on numerous mission trips.

George, is survived by his sons Greg (Lynne) and Rodney (Lynn), daughter-in-law Sue and foster daughter Mary McGraw Saunders (Neil); 12 grandchildren – Daniel (Bri) Loesch, David (Mallory) Loesch, Lauren (Brandon) Schnittke, Mi-Sun (Zach) Bostick, Gregory Loesch, Todd (Michaela) Loesch, Meredith (Chris) Shaw, Andrew Loesch, Caleb (Katie) Loesch, Thomas Loesch, Graham (Caitlin) Saunders, and Arden Saunders and 12 great-grandchildren – Hadley, Oliver, Ella, Ava, Addie, Huck, Penny, Kruz, Jackson, Anna, Heath and Marion. George was preceded in death by his parents, George & Goldie Loesch, his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Alice Loesch, and sons, Jim Loesch and Rodger Loesch.

The Loesch family will receive friends on Saturday April 9, 2022 from 1 to 3 pm followed by the Life Celebration Service at 3 pm at the Crossroads Community Church, Ontario Campus, 636 S Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield, Ohio 44906.
