On Feb. 1, Brethren Care Village welcomed its newest addition, the Child Care Center.

Megan Langhurst, child care director, is ecstatic to bring child care to Ashland that offers unique qualities to the community.

“I have a passion for children,” Langhurst said. “This is making my dreams come true.”

Two of the main goals for the Child Care Center are for the kids to acquire new skills, but have fun doing so along the way. This is accomplished by their play-based curriculum that includes visits from the Ashland Public Library Bookmobile every other week and yoga sessions and music classes whenever the children need a brain break.

Our child care strives to ensure the kids are ready for kindergarten by the time they leave, Langhurst said. She believes her skills as a licensed teacher combined with the advantages the organization offers will help with this goal.

“We have small classes and high-teacher ratio,” Langhurst said. Brethren Care Village Child Care Center believes “[their] small group sizes allow [them] to offer your child optimal care while ensuring they stay busy, learn and most importantly HAVE FUN!”

Paige Wade, mother and employee at the Child Care Center, is confident her child is enrolled in the best care Ashland has to offer.

“My daughter is being well taken care of here,” Wade said. “The parent to teacher communication is also very appreciated.”

Langhurst and staff provide the utmost care by using the app Procare. This application allows parents and faculty to see who picked up/dropped off a child and also receive updates about them while they are at child care.

The Child Care Center is also making strides to keep their children, faculty and staff as safe as possible. Sanitizing procedures are being followed as well as weekly testing for staff who are not vaccinated. At this time, masks are optional within the facility.

As the pandemic subsides, future plans are starting to be put in place in regards to connecting the residents and children of Brethren Care Village. Activities such as read-alongs, crafts, walks around the building and gardening are becoming highly anticipated by the members.

“The residents love to watch the children play outside from the windows,” Langhurst said. It allows for a kind of bond between the residents and the children to generate a sense of comradery.

Brethren Care Village Child Care Center is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Part-time and full-time care is offered as well as before/after school care with busing provided by Ashland City Schools. Drop in care is also available with pre-registration as well as summer programs. Give your child the opportunity to play, grow and learn.
