NEW WASHINGTON — Emily Siesel doesn’t have time to enjoy her most recent award.
The Buckeye Central guard has a state semifinal game to prepare for.
Siesel was selected the Northwest District Player of the Year in Division IV when the all-district teams were announced Wednesday. Siesel shared the award with Toledo Christian’s Kendall Braden and New Knoxville’s Ellie Gabel.
A 5-foot-6 senior, Siesel averaged 18.4 points a game while leading the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in assists (5.4) and steals (7.0). She helped power the Buckettes to a regional championship and a berth in this week’s Final Four at the University of Dayton. Buckeye Central will play Waterford in the state semifinals at 2 p.m. Friday.
Siesel was joined on the all-district first team by teammate Claudia Pifher. The senior averaged 21.1 points a game and became the program’s career scoring leader in a district final win over Seneca East.
Lucas’ Shelby Grover was a second-team pick. The junior averaged 20 points a game.
Mansfield Christian’s Alexis Rippel was a third-team selection. Rippel averaged 13.5 points a game, helping the Flames reach the district tournament.
Honorable-mention picks included Mansfield Christian’s Anna Sparks and Aubrynn Maiyer, Plymouth’s Jaylin Branham and Erin Stevens and Buckeye Central’s Julia Evak.
On the boys side, Lucas’ Logan Toms was a first-team pick after helping the Cubs win their fourth consecutive Mid-Buckeye Conference championship. Toms averaged 15.1 points a game.
Mansfield Christian’s Amarr Davis was a second-team choice. The 5-foot-10 sophomore averaged 22 points a night.
Lucas’ Corbin Toms and St. Peter’s Feree Kent were both honorable-mention selections. They were joined by Crestline’s R.J. Johnson, Lucas Cochran and Josh Hall, Buckeye Central’s Aiden McDougal and Alex Kanney and Plymouth’s Clayton Miller and Zeth Goth.
