OLIVESBURG — Crestview’s unbeaten run to the Firelands Conference title didn’t go overlooked.
Mary Leeper and Emma Aumend were selected to the first team and coach Amy Bays was tabbed the Coach of the Year when the All-Firelands Conference girls basketball team was announced Thursday.
Norwalk St. Paul’s Maddy McCall was selected the Firelands Conference Player of the Year. The senior led the league in scoring at 14 points a game
Crestview was a perfect 14-0 in Firelands Conference play this winter. The Cougars won a Division III sectional title and advanced to the district tournament.
A do-it-all senior, Leeper averaged 9.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game. Aumend, a junior, ranked fifth in the FC in scoring at 10.1 points a night.
The Crestview duo was joined on the first team by McCall, Mapleton’s Sara Hickey, South Central’s Kendyl Beverly, Western Reserve’s Isabelle Duchette and Monroeville’s Graisyn Yoder. Hickey averaged 12 points a game for the Mounties, while Beverly was good for 13.1 points a game. Duchette scored 9.8 points a game and Yoder averaged 10.4 points a game.
Crestview’s Anna McFarland was a second-team pick, along with Mapleton’s Bailey Davis and Heidi Earl and Plymouth’s Jaylin Branham. Other second-teamers were South Central’s Angela Williams, New London’s Emilee Rowland, Monroeville’s Hannah Lyons and Western Reserve’s Madelyn Kolb.
Honorable-mention selections included Crestview’s Francis Dinsmore, Plymouth’s Erin Stevens, Mapleton’s Holly Earl, South Central’s Claire Osborn, New London’s Madison Rowland, Western Reserve’s Lillian White, St. Paul’s Brooke Houck and Monroeville’s Stacey Legg and Delaney Giles.
The All-Firelands Conference boys team will be released once all conference teams have been eliminated from the postseason. South Central will play Margaretta for the Division IV Willard District title Friday, while Western Reserve will meet Colonel Crawford for the Division III Norwalk district crown Saturday.
