LOUDONVILLE — The Cleo Redd Fisher Museum in Loudonville has announced a group tour to the German state of Bavaria and neighboring Austrian region of Salzburg, slated for this December.

The tour is designed to give guests an introductory welcome to one of the most popular regions of Germany and includes numerous historic and cultural landmarks from the Medieval, Renaissance, and World War eras. According to museum curator, Kenny Libben, the trip has been three years in the making; first being set for 2020 before being delayed due to the pandemic.

“We’re excited to finally continue with the trip in 2022 and look forward to introducing guests to the beauty of Bavaria and wonderful cultural traditions there,” Libben said.

Among the highlights of the trip include exploring cities such as Munich, Nuremberg, and Salzburg, smaller towns such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Oberammergau, and Augsburg, and landmarks such as the Neuschwanstein Castle that inspired Walt Disney, the Zeppelinfield in Nuremberg, and the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial.

The trip will also feature visits to the numerous Christmas Markets that dot every town square during that time of year.

According to Libben, the trip is designed for a small group, allowing guests more flexibility to explore the cities on their own in the evenings or to skip certain activities (such as the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial) if desired and re-group later in the day.

Guests also have the option to extend their stay beyond the advertised tour, which is scheduled for Dec. 1 to 7, 2022. The travel package includes six nights’ accommodation in Munich and Nuremberg, in-country transportation with English-speaking drivers and tour guides, entrance and admission fees, breakfasts and two group dinners.

Libben was happy to announce that packages start at just $1,995 per person which is significantly cheaper than the original 2020 tour.

“We don’t think we’ll see travel opportunities this affordable again,” he mentioned, “even airfare (which isn’t included in the travel package) is currently only $700 round trip at the moment.”

The museum is accepting registrations until the Early Bird discounted deadline on March 31 and the final deadline on April 30, however the museum noted that limited spaces remain and is expected to fill up before those deadlines.
