MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Howard man “as part of an investigation into the death of a 22-month-old child,” Sheriff David Shaffer announced in press release Thursday.
Deputies took Danial L. Shahan, 28, into custody Thursday, the press release stated. He is currently being held at the Knox County Jail.
The child in question was brought to Knox Community Hospital on Monday evening by her mother and grandmother, according to the press release. The child was later transferred to a Columbus hospital.
Detectives were notified Thursday afternoon of the child’s death, the press release stated, and deputies arrested Shahan shortly thereafter.
“The case remains under investigation,” Shaffer said in the release.
It’s unclear if Shahan has been charged with any crimes in relation to the child’s death. It’s also unclear what role the KCSO suspects he may have played in the incident. Shaffer did not immediately respond to requests for comment late Thursday.
This is a developing story. Knox Pages will provide updates as new information becomes available.
