Raymond J. Kasper, 85, of Mansfield went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital surrounded by his family.

Ray was born September 15, 1936 in Pittsburgh to Joseph and Rose Kapton Kasper.  He graduated from high school in Pittsburgh and started working immediately to finally retire from Empire Detroit Steel.  He had a love for cars and trains, playing cards with family and friends, working in his yard, and you usually heard him whistling while doing anything he enjoyed.

Ray was a member of St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church where he was part of the choir, folk group, a CCD teacher and served on several committees. He was a member of the Madison Township Lions Club for 25 years where he was past president and Zone 6 Chairperson.  Ray received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and was treasurer of the Richland County Project Life Saver Driving Force for the Lions Club. He was instrumental in starting the Awareness Dance with Phil Dirt and the Dozers.  Ray also was a member of the Knights of Columbus #4448 for 20 years and a 4th Degree member.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years Joy Whitmer Kasper; his children Patty (Shawn) Vanbuskirk, Ray (Donna) Kasper Jr., David (Sheila) Kasper, Diane (Scott) Girard, Karen Kasper; step-children Ron (Honey) Burfield, Diane (Ken) Fortney, Lori (Tom) Wiseman; grandchildren Kali (Cory) Taylor, Carson (Tori) Kasper, Kyle (L.B.) Kasper, Akasha Kasper, Paige Carr, Avery (Nikki) Carr, Payton Girard; step-grandchildren Sara Burfield, Tommy (Jenn) Wiseman, Richelle (Chad) Dolis, Matthew (Natalie) Domer, Michael (Breanna) Domer; great-grandchildren Marley Kasper, Reese Kasper, Cole Taylor, baby boy Taylor; step-great-grandchildren Somer, Tyler, Kayleigh, and Alyssa Wiseman, Ryann and Alex Dolis, Lilah Dyer, Austin and Hannah Domer; sister-in-law Norma Kasper; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Clara, Dorothy, Audrey and Larry.

Friends may call at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, Sunday from 3 – 6pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00am Monday at St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church with Fr. Matt Frisbee officiating.  Burial will follow in Prince of Peace Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lion’s Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church.
