LOUDONVILLE — A Maple Heights man was transported to Mansfield OhioHealth Hospital early Sunday morning after a high-speed chase that spanned Richland and Ashland County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Mansfield Post, Eduardo Albert Osorio-Samperio, 25, of Maple Heights, was suffered non-life threatening injuries after his truck crashed in Loudonville.

Charges are pending in the incident, the Patrol reported.

The Mansfield Highway Patrol Post said it received a phone call about a vehicle driving recklessly on Interstate-71, northbound, near mile post 151 at approximately 12:33 a.m, The vehicle was identified and a traffic stop was initiated by a Mansfield Highway Patrol Trooper on Interstate-71 northbound, near mile post 175.

The vehicle, driven by Osorio-Samperio, pulled over towards the right berm and stopped, partially in the right lane. As the Trooper began to approach the vehicle, the driver fled and a pursuit ensued, the Patrol  reported.

The vehicle, a blue 2011 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, exited I-71 north and continued on to U.S. 30 east at a high rate of speed, the Patrol stated. The vehicle eventually exited on to State Route 60 south and continued to drive into Loudonville. Osorio-Samperio continued on South Union Street where he crossed over East Bustle Street, failed to maintain control and struck the McMullen Elementary School building.

Osorio-Samperio was treated at the scene by the Loudonville EMS and was transported to the Mansfield OhioHealth Hospital.

Troopers from the Ashland Patrol Post, the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department and the Loudonville Police Department assisted with the investigation. The driver was not wearing his safety belt and alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, the Patrol stated.
