PAINT TOWNSHIP – A Baltic woman was killed and another person hospitalized Friday morning after a two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. in Paint Township, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Maxine Hamlin, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The incident took place at the intersection of U.S. 62 in Holmes County.
Initial investigation revealed Michael Weaver, 20, of Millersburg, was traveling northeast on US 62 in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. Maxine Hamlin, 72, of Baltic, was traveling north on State Route 515 in a 2018 Jeep Compass. The Patrol reported that Hamlin failed to yield from a stop sign at the intersection of SR 515 and US 62 and pulled into the path of Weaver.
Hamlin was struck on the driver’s side of her vehicle and both vehicles came to rest on US 62, northeast of SR 515.
Weaver was not injured. A 33-year-old female who was a passenger in Hamlin’s vehicle also sustained serious injuries and was transported to Canton Aultman Hospital by the Winesburg Fire Department.
Assisting at the scene were the Winesburg Fire Department, East Holmes Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
At this time the crash remains under investigation, however drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
