Ah, Fall. The time of year where all Ohioans are able to experience that perfect 60-70 degree weather consistently, even if it is for a short period of time.

Around this time last year, fall activities seemed to be non-existent. So I don’t know about you, but I am so ready to participate in all the festivities this year!

My fiance and I decided to take advantage of the normality this year and go to Honey Haven Farm in Ashland, to eat fresh donuts, drink fresh cider and, of course, pick out the perfect pumpkin.

And that’s where I realized that it really is the small, simple date days that always end up being the most fun and intimate.

There’s so many things happening around the Richland, Ashland and Knox areas this year; ranging from apple picking to festivals to hiking. There’s something for everyone, no matter how old you are!

Check out this list of activities I’ve compiled for a fun date day or date night with your significant other, your family, your friend group; or, go have a date with yourself.

  1. Go to Apple Hill Orchards in Mansfield for apple picking, fresh apple donuts and freshly pressed hot apple cider. Apple orchards are the perfect place to start out the fall season and even better, it’s an easy and fun way to spend time with your significant other.

  1. Check out Honey Haven Farm in Ashland to find the perfect pumpkin from the patch, eat amazing food or shop their country store with fall produce, and much more! Let’s be honest, what screams Fall more than a pumpkin patch? A classic date day activity!

  1. Go explore Mohican State Park in Loudonville to experience the beautiful fall colors and leaves. If you’ve never seen Mohican in the Fall, I highly recommend you do. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but you can enjoy nature, and the scenery together.

  1. If you’re 21 or older, go drink some pumpkin ale at Uniontown Brewery in Ashland, along with their amazing seasonal selection of dishes. Make this a romantic evening night out sampling their Fall dishes and brews.

  1. Participate in the Fall Hiking Spree at Ashland County & City Parks. Print out the sheet using the link provided, and participate in the list of hikes they provide. This allows you to explore all of the beauty Ashland has to offer—some of these places being hidden gems you may have never even heard of!

  2. Spend a day at the Prairie Peddler Festival in Butler where there’s an outdoor marketplace featuring over 200 artisans, music and a wide selection of food. This is a perfect event to spend time walking around together and checking out all of the amazing products the artisans have created.

  1. Head to the Blueberry Patch and 1285 Winery in Lexington for blueberry picking, wood-fired pizzas and—if you’re 21 or older—try out their house-made wine. This is a perfect place for a fall day out.

  1. Check out the Pumpkin Glow at Kingwood Center Gardens in Mansfield! This is a great activity for two or, if you have children, this is something they would enjoy as well! Think of it as the scarier version of going to look at Christmas lights. Instead of Christmas, the garden paths are filled with hundreds of jack o lanterns and fall decor.

  2. Go to Waynes Country Market in Mansfield for Pumpkins, Cider and apples. A perfect activity when you’re looking for something quick and simple to do together.

  3. If you’re looking for a thrill, The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield is the activity for you. Enjoy a spooky, haunted walk through the historic prison that will have you clinging to your partner’s arm the entire time.

The moral of the story is date nights don’t need to be fancy and extravagant. Take some time to get outside and enjoy nature, fresh foods that are only made once a year and, most importantly, enjoy each other’s company.

Time is a precious commodity that you can’t ever get back. Go make memories this fall.
