MADISON TOWNSHIP ─ Improvement projects on U.S. Route 30 will affect the road use in Madison Township for the next four months.

The township trustees on Monday evening approved agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation regarding the maintenance of the detour routes. Trustee Dan Fletcher said he has discussed the detours with ODOT and confirmed with the township’s road department.

The detour routes will take effect on April 20 and last for 125 days, Fletcher said.

According to the maintenance agreements, the exit ramp from U.S. Route 30 to State Route 545 will be closed to through traffic. Drivers who travel on Route 30 can take the exit ramp to Fifth Avenue, travel north and return to Route 545.

The entrance ramp from Route 545 to Route 30 westbound will also be closed for four months. Drivers who travel on Route 545 can turn west onto Piper Road, traveling south onto State Route 13 and return to Route 30.

In addition, Madison Township trustees approved Fire Chief Kenneth Justus’ request to place multiple items no longer in use at the fire department on GovDeals, a website for bidding on government surplus and unclaimed property.

The fire department will auction off 13 items on GovDeals, including a 2006 fire truck, hoses, ladders and fire extinguishers. The fire truck’s reserve price is $15,000.

Justus has led the effort to clean up the fire station since taking office in March. He has also been working with the state and Monroe-Lucas Fire Department respectively to remove a satellite trailer and light tower unit from Madison’s stations, according to his report to the trustees on Monday.
