One of my favorite things about humanity is how we need each other. Not one single person is completely self-sufficient. We each have strengths and weaknesses, skills and deficits, clear vision and blind spots. Each of us is in a constant state of development, always unfinished.

This is why advice is so compelling. When we’re experienced and strong in an area, we’re eager to share wisdom with those around us who haven’t walked the path we’ve already tread. When we’re lacking insight and experience, we seek it out from those around us. We look for guides or we ourselves are the guide to others.

The Thrive series here at Richland Source is all about exploring how to live better, and no matter where you are in life, there’s an area where you still have room for growth. A natural extension of that is advice, and that’s coming to you now through a column we call, “Ask Coco.”

Advice columns have been published for centuries as a means to bring solutions to burning problems to the masses. Whatever you’re dealing with, though your particular challenge is uniquely yours, it probably isn’t unique. And, when you are willing to share your pursuit by submitting a question, you might be able to help others in our community who have the same problem.

What sorts of questions should someone Ask Coco?

Pretty much anything is on the table! If Coco can’t answer it on her own, she’ll find someone who can.

Will the questions be anonymous?

Of course! Your identity will be a secret and we’ll refer to you with an alias.

Will I know if my question is selected?

Yes, we’ll email you to alert you to the publication of an answer.

Will every question be answered?

We’ll do our best to answer as many as we can, but there will be some that are not answered.

Is Coco qualified to give advice?

On things that require a certified professional, no… but should the need arise, we’ll pull one in. “Coco” is a pseudonym for Thrive Correspondent Colleen Cook, a full-time working mom and wife in her mid-30s who has career experience as a business leader and marketing expert. Think of her like the big sister you can lean on for your medium-sized problems.
