BLOOMING GROVE TOWNSHIP — A Richland County Sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Richland County Deputy Scott Davis was transported by Shiloh Fire and EMS to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries, the patrol reported.
The Mansfield Post is investigating the incident that occurred at around 1:45 p.m. on Ganges Five Point Road in the area of Ganges East Road in Blooming Grove Township.
The crash occurred when a 2018 Ford Taurus, driven by Davis, was responding in emergency status to a call for service, according to a Patrol report. As Davis was responding, he began the action of passing other traffic.
While in the process of passing, a silver 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Allen Baumberger, 66, of Shelby, was in the process of making a left turn into a private driveway. The Patrol reported Davis took evasive action to avoid contact and traveled off the right side of the road striking a rock and mailbox before overturning.
Baumberger was not injured in the incident.
Shiloh Fire and EMS, Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Shelly Smith Towing all responded to the crash site.
The Patrol stated the crash remains under investigation.
