LOUDONVILLE — A smaller version of the traditional Mohican Winterfest is set to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 in Loudonville.

The Loudonville Mohican Chamber of Commerce’s 15th annual event will feature ice sculptures displayed along Loudonville’s Main Street and opportunities to shop at local businesses.

“We’re calling it Ice Sculptures and Shop Hop,” said Chamber executive director, Valerie Spreng. “Anything that draws a crowd in one spot we got rid of, but we didn’t want to cancel everything. We thought this would be the best way to bring people in this year.”

There will be no live carving demonstration this year, but a large ice sculpture for photos will be positioned in Central Park.

The ice sculptures are carved by Elegant Ice Creations and sponsored by area businesses.

“I hope people will come out and enjoy the ice sculptures and visit downtown to see what all is happening down here,” said Marie White, the owner of The Alabaster Mouse. “I think people would enjoy getting out and seeing all that is going on.”

White’s Main Street business will be open Saturday and Sunday to accommodate those who might be visiting downtown Loudonville for the occasion. She’s planned sales on chocolate, coffee and Stormy Kromer merchandise.

The owner of Four Seasons Flowers and Gifts, Angie Heimberger has also been busy preparing for the upcoming weekend. She’s rearranged the store, shifting winter-themed items and new products to the front of the store. The items join a collection of candles that typically can be found near the entrance. Christmas items will be on sale at the store.

“We’re looking forward to the weekend. The Mohican Winterfest is fun for us,” she said.
