(UPDATE 4:30 P.M.) MANSFIELD — A 94-year-old man missing in Mansfield since Friday afternoon has been found deceased, according to the Mansfield Police Department.
The department posted an update on Facebook shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“Earlier this afternoon, 94-year-old Furman Summers (white male) was reported missing by an out-of-town family member who had been notified that Mr. Summers had not been seen since Friday afternoon and suffered from Dementia,” the department said.
“Officers responded to his residence on Erie Street where additional family and friends had gathered. Officers set up a perimeter, enabled the Unmanned Aerial Unit (DRONE), and began searching for Mr. Summers. A ‘Silver Alert’ was also initiated.
“A short time later, Mr. Summers was located, deceased, not far from his home. The preliminary investigation does not indicate foul play at this time and a cause of death is pending an autopsy. Any additional updates will be released at a later date.”
3:15 p.m. — A missing adult alert has been issued by the Mansfield police Department for Richland County and surrounding counties: Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, and Morrow.
Be on the lookout for a missing adult. On Dec. 11 at 12 p.m. Furman Summers walked away from his residence and has not been seen since.
The incident took place in Richland County on Erie Street in the city of Mansfield.
Summers is a White male, age 94, is 6’0″ tall, weighs 157lbs. and has gray hair and blue eyes. Mr. Summers suffers from Dementia and law enforcement is concerned for his safety. He was last seen wearing black coveralls.
