June was born December 28, 1946, in Cheshire, West Virginia, the daughter of John & Dorothy (Walker) Ramey. She was a 1964 graduate of Clear Fork High School which was the first senior class to graduate under the name Clear Fork. June was voted Homecoming Queen by her classmates, and she was proud to be a member of the National Business Honors Society.
Through mutual friends, she met Jim Tilton and the pair married June 24, 1967. They celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss in 2017 with a wonderful gathering of friends and family. Perhaps their secret to a long-lasting marriage would be to make each other laugh as June & Jim made jokes with each other every single day of their life together.
June was not afraid of hard work. Prior to marriage, she had several jobs but her first focus was her family. She worked on the farm all while raising three kids. She was a wonderful mother and wife and she volunteered as a 4-H advisor for over 15 years and served as a Girl Scouts den mother. When her children were older, she took a full-time position with the OSU Extension in Mansfield as an Administrative Assistant for 25 years until her retirement.
One important part of every day for June was fixing her hair “just so” and she would never leave the house without a nice hairdo. Her kids even remember her working around the farm in heels—never work boots for June! She was a gracious hostess and no one ever left her home empty-handed or with an empty stomach. June was fiercely independent and loved to go shopping out-of-town. She was the rock of the family and was very personable—everyone who met June just loved her. She attended Impact Worship Center in Bellville.
Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to her five wonderful grandkids and she cherished spending time with them. Her mom, Dorothy, taught her to cook and boy could June cook! She made delicious food and always had plenty of leftovers. Her Christmastime treats were special favorites (strudel, buckeyes, pinwheels, and more). Her family will miss her treats, but even more will miss her loving spirit and generous laughter.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jim Tilton of Bellville; children Jason (Trudi) Tilton of Bellville, Jarrod (Terri) Tilton of Bellville, and Julie (Jason) Stewart of Lexington; grandchildren Hunter Tilton, Alex Tilton, Justin Stewart, Caroline Tilton, and Jacob Stewart; brother Randy Ramey of Bellville; brothers-in-law Blain (Becky) Tilton, and Ronald (Joyce) Tilton; sister-in-law Connie Tilton; nieces and nephews Tracey Burden (Jeremy Stewart), Tony (Shelly) Ramey, Travis Tilton, Teri Tilton, Tisha (Jeff) Bailey, and Dawn (Eric) Wolfgang; longtime best friend Diana Worner-Kelley; lifelong friend Andrea Marcucci; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents John & Dorothy Ramey, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law Donald & Dortha Tilton, brothers-in-law Larry Tilton and Dwain Tilton, niece Tonya Tilton, and nephew Tim Tilton.
