Dear Editor:

I hope people are paying attention. If we don’t speak up, I am afraid we may well lose our democracy as we know it.

It is outrageous that President Trump has not conceded the election; has not permitted the release of the funds always available to the transition team; has instructed his (apparently not our) attorney general to look for election fraud throughout the country when every state attorney general (republican and democrat) has reported no fraud*; has replaced qualified personnel in the Pentagon (and other departments) who are loyalists as well as unqualified for those positions; and has, thereby, endangered our safety.

And, still and always, Mitch McConnell and almost all of the other Republican Senators have said nothing.

I served as a poll worker for the first time this year. Not because I was unafraid of Covid. (I was and still am afraid as 71 year old with a history of respiratory problems.) I served because I believed it was my civic duty. I don’t mind endangering my life for democracy, but I expect others to do their part as well.

Call Senator Rob Portman and tell him to stand up to Trump.
