MANSFIELD — Mansfield City Schools will return to its two days in-person, two days at home hybrid schedule starting Oct. 5.
Superintendent stan Jefferson announced the change Friday afternoon, one day after Richland County reached a Level 3 “Red” designation in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System.
Students will attend in-person classes based on their assignment to Tyger and Falcon cohorts. Tygers will attend Monday and Tuesday; Falcons Thursday and Friday. Students will complete remote learning assignments while not in school.
“In order to protect the health and safety of our staff, teachers and students, we feel this is the best measure to be taken at this time,” Jefferson said in an automated message released Friday afternoon. “Should Richland County’s exposure level change, we will notify our school community immediately.”
Richland County triggered six out of seven indicators for wide community spread on Thursday. The county is currently on “watch,” meaning that if it does not drop to five indicators or fewer by Oct. 8, it will be designated Level 4 “Purple.”
Jefferson indicated that if the community does not “go purple,” the district would return to four days a week in-person soon.
“It is our strong desire to increase in-person learning days when less indicators are triggered on the health advisory system, even if we are still an overall red,” he said.
