ASHLAND — Sure enough, it came back.

A new date was announced Monday for the 2020 U.S. Boomerang National Championships to take place at Ashland’s Freer Field.

The upcoming Boomerang National Championship is set for Aug. 7 and 8, according to a Facebook post from the U.S. Boomerang Team.

Earlier this year, the team announced plans to come to Ashland for the first time in June, but the competition was indefinitely postponed shortly after due to COVID-19 concerns.

The social media post acknowledged that COVID-19 could potentially affect the event again.

“As of now, this is not expected to change, however, should anything change per COVID 19, we will let you know ASAP,” the post said.

According to Mayor Matt Miller, the city of Ashland is working with a representative of the competition to bring a potential “unique twist” to the occasion and “make it the most welcoming event they’ve ever had.”

“We are very excited that they are this committed to holding this championship here in the city of Ashland,” he said.
