MANSFIELD — Ten members of the public watched the Mansfield School Board meeting from the lobby of the board office Tuesday night.
The procedure was part of an effort to follow Monday’s suggestion by President Donald J. Trump that no more than 10 people should gather at one time.
The board members, including superintendent Stan Jefferson and pro-tem treasurer Shari Gombosch, met in the usual meeting space, while others watched a livestream on a smart board.
Board president Renda Cline said she was happy to see those around her despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The school board voted to participate in the Feeding Children during Coronavirus Related Unanticipated School Closures program.
For the duration of the school closure due to COVID-19, the Food Service Department will be distributing breakfast and lunch, free of charge to children under 18.
Beginning Wednesday, March 18, lunch and the following day’s breakfast will be distributed at Malabar Intermediate and Mansfield Senior High School.
The board of education will not know until the distribution begins whether it needs to add additional distribution spots or consider delivery to neighborhoods and bus stops.
In other news, the board came out of a lengthy executive session to approve of Jill Smith, from Madison County to be the interim treasurer for the district.
The district will open applications for a full-time treasurer Friday.
“She has 30 years of experience,” said board member Chris Elswick. “She’s been an interim and a full time treasurer before.”
