MANSFIELD — Mansfield City Schools district employees will be paid by the end of the day, according to Superintendent Stan Jefferson.
Employees will be sent this message in an email by the end of the day:
In working with Richland Bank, the pay for today has been expedited, and we have been assured that the funds will be in your accounts by 5 p.m. today. An “acting” treasurer’s signature is required by law for the paychecks. Once Ms. (Tammy) Bole was hired as an acting treasurer by the board, her signature could then be used for this pay. All procedures for the pay were completed by the payroll department on schedule, but could not go forward without an acting treasurer’s signature. Once again we apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may have caused.
On Friday morning, the school announced employees would not be paid until Monday. But the district was able to get the issue resolved later in the day.
Mark Wilcheck, the district’s personnel director, added there is no secret code needed to complete payroll.
The teacher’s union president, Brad Strong said the teachers will be happy to hear they will be getting their paychecks on schedule.
“I think this is proof the system works,” he said. “I spent the evening last night talking with them. It’s wonderful that they made it happen so expeditiously.”
Wilcheck estimated the school allocates more than $500,000 per payroll to its employees.
“We want to take care of our staff,” Jefferson said. “We have a system in which we have instructional staff, support staff, supplemental contracts, people getting six-period pay — we don’t want anyone to have to go through any form of financial hardship, difficulties, or adjustments.
“We are also fortunate for the work of Richland Bank, and for what they were able to do today.”
