MONROEVILLE — Lexington’s defense led the charge to prevail over Clear Fork 38-33 in the Division II sectional opener at Monroeville High School on Tuesday night.
Sixth-seeded Lady Lex opened a 13-3 first-quarter advantage, but the ninth-seeded Colts closed to within 21-15 at halftime. Lexington pushed out to a 30-18 margin through three periods, and withstood a 15-8 Clear Fork charge over the final eight minutes.
Gabby Stover topped Lexington with eight points and eight rebounds. Lexi Blasberg and Emma Sturts each chipped in six points.
Carson Crowner notched a game-high nine points for the Colts, while Kali Weikle and Brooke Robinson added eight points apiece.
Lexington (15-8) enjoyed a 41-23 rebounding advantage, and limited Clear Fork to 6-of-23 shooting inside the arc.
The Ohio Cardinal Conference champions move into Saturday’s 8 p.m. sectional title game against second-seeded Shelby (21-1) again at Monroeville High School.
The Colts finished the season at 7-16.
