MANSFIELD — Mansfield City Schools and Mansfield St. Peter’s Schools have both announced they will be closed on Monday, Feb. 3 in an effort to stem the tide of high absenteeism due to colds and flu-like symptoms.
“Our maintenance and custodial staffs will use the weekend and Monday to thoroughly clean and disinfect our schools and buses,” Superintendent Stan Jefferson said.
The Y Kids Club will meet at Malabar Intermediate School on Monday. That building will already have been cleaned.
St. Peter’s School will be also be closed on Monday due to illness and transportation concerns. School will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 4. WMFD is also reporting that Richland School of Academic Arts will close on Monday, too.
On Friday illness prompted the closing of schools in Crestline, Lucas, Crestview and St. Peter’s and at Columbia Elementary School in Mount Vernon.
“We will treat all of our buildings and buses will a hospital-grade disinfectant spray manufactured by Earthsafe Chemical Alternatives,” Jefferson said. “This disinfectant is safe to use in all areas, even on food surfaces, without rinsing.
“There will be no harmful residue when students return on Tuesday.”
Jefferson said the district’s goal is to be proactive by greatly reducing the threat posed by microbes which cause Illness.
“Children who continue to cough, sneeze or display other symptoms of a cold should remain at home until the symptoms subside,” he said.
