ONTARIO — The Shelby girls basketball team outpaced Ontario in the second half to remain undefeated with a 47-36 victory at the O-Rena.
“We came out a little slow,” said Shelby’s Coach Natalie Lantz. “But we warmed up in the second half and played a lot stronger defense.”
The Whippets were led by Youngstown State commit Emma Randall, who notched 21 points. She was assisted by Olivia Baker who dropped in 11 points.
The Warriors were led by Ashten Vavra and Carleigh Pearson with the teammates bringing nine and eight points to their team’s offense respectively.
The two teams traded blows in the first quarter with Shelby grabbing a 9-8 edge. Ontario edged in front 15-14 at halftime.
The Whippets’ stamina allowed them to land a few blows on the Ontario defense to regain their lead 28-24 heading to the final eight minutes. The knockout punch came in the fourth quarter with Shelby burning out the clock to win 47-36.
With this win Shelby continues their undefeated season and is now 13-0 and will be in action against Pleasant on Jan. 16. The Warriors fall to 6-5 and will bus to Norwalk on Jan. 16.
