LEXINGTON — Upper Sandusky’s Evan Young erupted for 27 points as the Rams ended Lexington’s six-game winning streak 68-53 in Satruday night’s independent boys basketball game.
“We wanted to take a team like this out of their halfcourt sets and we have been doing a lot better at pressuring the ball,” Upper Sandusky Coach Jeff Winslow said. “It’s made a real difference in how we’re playing.”
The Rams (9-1) grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it, stretching a 16-10 first-quarter margin to a 32-23 halftime advantage. Winslow’s squad moved on top 49-34 through the third period and coasted from there.
Dylan Spears topped the Minutemen (6-3) with 16 points. Teammates Max Waldruff and Kaydan Berry contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Young’s game-high performance was supported by Cameron McCreary’s 17 points and Mason Vent’s 13 points.
The Rams enjoyed a 19-5 scoring advantage at the free-throw line and outrebounded Lex 31-21.
Upper Sandusky hosts Mohawk on Jan. 9. Lexington travels to Mansfield Senior on Jan. 10.
