MANSFIELD — Mansfield police Officer Jeffrey C. Gillis has announced his retirement from the Mansfield Division of Police, effective Jan. 6.

Gillis was appointed to the department on Aug. 31, 1994. As a new patrol officer, he was assigned to the Community Services Bureau Patrol Section and is currently assigned to the night shift.

He was selected the Officer of the Year in 2010 and awarded the Medal of Honor in 2013 and 2016.

During his career, he served on the Defensive Tactics Team, the Range Team and most recently the newly formed U.A.S. Response Unit. He served 15 years on the department SWAT team.

“Officer Gillis is known for his hard work, dedication, initiative and positive attitude toward his work. He consistently demonstrates a high degree of skill, integrity and perseverance in his job,” police Chief Keith Porch said.

“Throughout his career, he has received numerous special commendation awards, letters of recognition, and letters of appreciation from citizens and fellow law enforcement personnel.

“Jeff’s retirement represents a loss to the Mansfield Division of Police, the citizens of this community and culminates a career that has exemplified the best qualities of a law enforcement professional.

“Jeff has our congratulations upon his retirement and our heartfelt thanks for many years of loyal service. We wish him the greatest success and happiness in the future,” Porch said.

The public is invited to a farewell reception for Gillis on Monday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
