ONTARIO — Junior guard Griffin Shaver has picked up this season right where he he left off last year for Ontario.

As in leading the Warriors to victory.

Shaver, a third-team All-Northwest District honoree last year after averaging almost 13 points, four rebounds and three assists per game, scored 21 points Friday night to lead the Warriors past Galion, 61-27, at the O-Rena.

Ontario raced past Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Galion in the first quarter to gain a 14-point lead, 19-5. The Warriors continued to put on a clinic in the second period, outscoring the Tigers, 18-10, to build a 37-15 halftime edge.

The Warriors then outscored the Tigers 20-7 in the third, cruising to the victory in the final eight minutes.

Shaver credited his teammates for his scoring success.

“My teammates enabled me a lot this game, from helping me get open to setting screens for me, Shaver said.

Griffin was assisted by Amil Upchurch and Kolten Kurtz, who both notched nine points for Ontario.

Matt McMullen contributed 10 points to the Tiger offence.

The game also featured Ontario honoring its previous basketball successful  teams, including an undefeated team in 1989 that scored more than 2,000 points.

The 1994 squad, which reached the final four and featured two players that scored over 400 points in one season, also participated in the celebration.

Additionally, the 1999 and 2015 teams were honored.
