HOWARD — A Knox County man was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of domestic violence and assault after authorities were called to a residence on Weber Road near Howard on a welfare check.
Jose Hernandez, 45, was taken to the Knox County Jail, according to a press release from Sheriff David Shaffer. He reported that deputies determined during the investigation that a 13-year-old female was assaulted.
“When a deputy and Danville Police officer went to the suspect’s residence in Brinkhaven, he refused to answer the door, or respond to phone calls,” the press release states. “Additional Danville officers and deputies responded, along with negotiators and tactical response officers from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
“The suspect eventually responded to officers using a loudspeaker and surrendered without incident.”
The case remains under investigation.
