GALION — Galion Middle School is holding its annual Book Fair from Oct. 17 to 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the middle school library. In addition, the Book Fair will run during the Spooktacular Trick-or-Treat event on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This year’s theme of the Book Fair is the Wonderful Wizard of OZ. The library is decorated to depict the scenes from the original book series and the 1939 movie production of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
The GMS Book Fair is a long-running annual fundraising tradition for the library. All proceeds benefit the library book collection. With the funds from the Fair, the librarian Tracie Wittibslager selects new books to enrich the library offering for the middle schoolers. This year’s Book Fair goal is set for $4,200.
“Our annual Book Fair enables us to add many fiction and non-fiction books to our library selection. And while organization of it can be challenging, the benefits are definitely worth it,” Wittibslager said.
Families are encouraged to visit GMS Scholastic Book Fair website to access more information about the fair and to place online purchases using the payment system called e-Wallet.
This Scholastic-hosted website offers thousands of best-selling books and graphic novels, educational toys, and games. All sales proceeds will go towards the GMS Book Fair. If orders are placed in person, all methods of payment are accepted including credit and debit cards, cash and checks. All checks should be made out to Galion Middle School.
As an incentive for students and staff, school’s Principal Wheeler and Assistant Principal Kinnard have agreed to be duct-taped to the gymnasium wall if the library reaches their sales goal of $4,200. In addition, any student who donates a new roll of duct tape will receive a hoodie pass. (Limit of one pass per student.)
