HAYESVILLE — A Lakeside man has been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence for the fifth time, according to a press release issued Tuesday night from the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to the Patrol, On Oct. 12, at approximately 7:50 p.m., William Stakes crashed his vehicle on State Route 60, near Township Road 585. He failed to negotiate a curve in the road, drove off the right side of the roadway, striking two traffic signs and a utility pole.

Authorities stated that Stakes has four prior OVI convictions. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved. He was not injured in the crash.

Stakes is scheduled to appear in Ashland Municipal Court on Friday, Oct. 18th for his initial appearance.
