MANSFIELD — Music reporting has developed into a major love and passion of mine since joining Richland Source in 2016.
Being able to report about the over-flowing talent pool for Mansfield music has been more fun than ever, with new bands being created over the winter and connections introducing me to new bands.
But the best part of being the music reporter is being able to put together the free 2019 Newsroom After Hours shows at our 40 W. Fourth St. office.
The 2018 summer music series was a fantastic success. We turned the evenings into genre nights to help showcase more bands, as well as potentially introduce fans of genres to new musicians.
I was blown away with the response. We had more than 100 people in our building for nearly each of our eight shows.
We had our Halloween show in our basement, which, if you weren’t there, you’ll be sure to make this year.
I’m excited to announce this year’s lineup has all new bands, new genres, and of course, new faces.
April 19 – Indie Rock night
May 17 – Pop night
June 21 – Folk night
Jeff Bell & The American Collective
July 12 — Gospel night
James Williams & Frank Boyd Jr.
Aug. 16 Jazz night
Sept. 20 Hip-hop night
Oct. 18 – Hardcore Halloween (in the basement)
The free shows will begin around 6:30 p.m. each performance. Food and drinks will be provided. I look forward to seeing you all in April. The shows will also be broadcast the following Wednesday evening on WRDL Ashland Radio.
