MANSFIELD — No one was injured Wednesday when a minor electrical fire impacted a Mansfield home, but it couldn’t have come at a worse time for the local family.

The blaze occurred around noon at 237 Sycamore St. and has resulted in the home’s gas and electricity being shut off. Still, the family (which includes two teenagers) plans to remain in the residence despite the arctic temperatures, according to Mansfield Fire Assistant Chief Chris Speelman.

“They are going to try and stay in the house,” Speelman said at 3 p.m. “I tried to call the American Red Cross, but he didn’t want to bother with it.”

The accidental fire, which was extinguished in about five minutes, created extensive damage to the second floor, Speelman said. The fire department had to open two walls in the home, removing drywall to reach the blaze.

The husband and wife were both in the home, but neither had any injuries from the event.
