BUCYRUS — Five individuals and one team have been selected for the Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Saturday.
The Class of 2018 will be inducted into the hall of fame at 5 p.m. on March 30, 2019, at the Trillium Event Center, 1630 E. Southern Ave., Bucyrus.
The athletes and team chosen by the Selection Committee from those nominated include:
Danielle Grochowalski Vilt: A 2003 graduate of Wynford High School, Danielle was a three sport letter-winner in volleyball, basketball and track, and won the state track meet in the 400m race.
Teresa Luidhardt Oberlander: A 1983 graduate of Buckeye Central High School, Teresa played basketball and ran track. She won the 100m hurdles state championship.
Jennifer Kaple Shaver: A 1987 graduate of Buckeye Central High School, Jennifer earned 12 varsity letters in three sports including volleyball, basketball and softball.
Robert Frye (deceased): Robert graduated from Crestline High School in 1940. Bob played football and basketball at CHS and was a member of the 1942 Ohio State National Championship football team. He coached the Mansfield St. Peter’s boys basketball team to a 1968 state championship.
Wilbur Scott “Jake” Striker (deceased): Jake graduated from Sulpher Springs High School (now Colonel Crawford) and played major league baseball for the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox in the late 1950’s.
The Wynford High School Track 1975 Girls 440 yd Relay State Champions will also be inducted. The team includes: Penny Miller Cuffman, Linda Rule Chandler, Kathy Horak Grochowalski, Becky Wilburn Nickelson and coach Peggy Keller.
Tickets for the banquet are $20 for adults, $10 for 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at any of the six athletic departments in the county, the Crestline Advocate, or by calling 419-571-6284.
The banquet meal is being catered by Special Occasions from Upper Sandusky.
