MANSFIELD — The Rotary Club of Mansfield is now accepting public proposals for a major service project, which it hopes to complete in honor of it’s upcoming 100th anniversary.

“Mansfield Rotarians have been serving the community for (nearly a century) and would like to honor our 100-year anniversary by completing a major service project,” said club president, Scott King. “Involving the community in proposing ideas for the project allows us to field a wide slate of options to ensure we deliver a project of very high value and service to the community.”

King encouraged anyone interested in working with the Rotary to submit a potential project.

Initially, the Rotary is requesting a two-page letter of intent that covers the project scope, including a description, budget and funding sources. It should be drafted with the help of a sponsoring Rotarian. The letter of intent is due to the club by February 28th.

In the past, the Rotary has participated in the United Way Day of Caring and the Mansfield in Bloom flower planting. It helped establish the predecessor to Catalyst’s Rehab Center in 1921, the local Boy Scout Council in 1927 and the Rotary Adult Daycare in 1980.

Further, the club had commissioned the Johnny Appleseed Mural in downtown and supported several awards and scholarship programs.

“Projects could be in keeping with the type on this list, or may be something different than we are used to,” King said.

The club’s members will narrow the list of submissions and ultimately select one project to recognize the 100 year anniversary, which is March 1, 2020.

King hopes to find a project that fulfills the club’s mission “Service above self” and makes a last impact.

“Whether through the construction of a long-lasting structure or facility that benefits the community or through the establishment of a service that helps solve a long-lasting problem within the community,” King said.

Those interested in submitting a proposal, should approach a member of Rotary to help champion a proposal, or if they don’t know a member, they can contact Cindy Wood at wood.1183@osu.edu.
