ONTARIO — Some of the area’s brightest stars were in action Saturday during the 419 Challenge, but none shone brighter than Ashland’s Klejhan Randleman.

A rangy 6-foot-5 swingman, Randleman scored 22 points to lead Ashland to a 78-63 win over Ontario in the final game of the four-game showcase at the O-Rena.

Randleman set the tone for the Arrows, driving to the basket and nearly dunking in traffic while being fouled on Ashland’s first possession. He would knock down both free throws and connected on 9 of 10 freebies on the evening.

“Klejhan set the tone right off the bat,” Ashland coach Jason Hess said. “We knew that was in him and he just did a tremendous all night long on both ends of the floor.

“He was a game-changer for us.”

Brennan South, Clear Fork: A junior, South led a balanced Clear Fork attack with 14 points in a 60-31 win over Mansfield Christian. He had a dozen in the first half and didn’t play in the fourth quarter, helping the Colts (6-1) to their sixth straight win after a season-opening loss to Lexington.

Jashawn Au, Madison: A senior guard, Au scored 14 points in Madison’s 63-53 win over Galion. Au scored half his points in the third quarter as the Rams (2-5) built a comfortable 49-37 lead.

Gage Lackey, Galion: A 6-foot-5 senior, Lackey was the top scorer on the day with 23 points in Galion’s 63-53 loss to Madison. Lackey had the highlight of the day, throwing down a dunk on a break-away dunk with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Quan Hilory, Mansfield Senior: A deceptively quick 5-foot-10 guard, Hilory scored 19 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter of Mansfield Senior’s 50-44 win over Shelby. Hilory scored 11 points in the fourth, draining a 3-pointer to break a 36-36 tie with 3:30 remaining.

T.J. Pugh, Shelby: A 6-foot-6 sophomore, Pugh scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the short-handed Whippets. Shelby played without starters Hunter Hoffman and Nick Amstutz, but gave itself a chance to win in the fourth quarter of the 50-44 loss to Mansfield Senior.

Griffin Shaver, Ontario: A sophomore sharpshooter, Shaver connected on six 3-pointers and scored a team-best 22 points in Ontario’s 78-63 loss to Ashland. Shaver scored 13 of his 23 points in the third quarter. His rare four-point play — he was fouled while making a 3-pointer — pulled Ontario even at 54-54 late in the third.
