(UPDATED AT 11:45 A.M.) GALION — The sole juvenile-victim in the tainted Halloween candy investigation has been released from the hospital, according to Galion Police Chief, Brian Saterfield.

Galion police posted Sunday night about an open investigation into candy distributed during the city’s trick-or-treat that may have been “laced with something.” The child was trick-or-treating along the Arlington, Tidd and Highland areas.

“I spoke to the father who advised me he had taken his son trick-or-treating in Galion today (Oct. 28) between (2 p.m. and 4 p.m.),” The Galion Police’s incident report stated. “(The father) told (officer Andrew J Roystan) when they got home, he got home with his kid and they took off their clothes and fell over having a seizure of some sort.”

Police said the child had medical treatment and has since been released.

“As the report indicates, the child tested that he had methamphetamine in his system. He was released from the hospital last night and we do not have any additional reports of anyone being treated for illness relating to candy/trick-or-treat gifts,” according to a press release sent out at about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Saterfield said police do not know for sure if the drug was in the candy. The boy is the only victim of which police are aware and the department does not know if the methamphetamine is illegal.

“We encourage parents to thoroughly check any candy your children may have received before they eat it,” police posted.
