ONTARIO – Ontario’s recreation department will hold a one-day Halloween-themed event on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The department intends to have a Haunted Trail from 5 to 10 p.m. along Marshall Park’s walking trail, located near the dog park and baseball field.

“I just wanted to have something fun and safe for the community to do during Halloween,” said recreation department director, Heather Hendrix. “Sounded like a fun event to try out.”

The first portion of the event, from 5 to 7 p.m., is designed to be family-friendly, while the later portion will be “scarier” and is meant for older children and adults.

Each section will include five scenes with actors scaring them in between.

“It will not be a very long trail, but if this goes well we will make it bigger next year,” Hendrix said.

The admission costs $5 and will support the Ontario High School organizations and possibly the local fire department, which will be providing people to run scenes.

“I hope to have a few hundred people there, so we can make some money for the organizations helping, but have no idea what to expect,” Hendrix said.

This is a first-time event for her. She considered the idea last year but was “didn’t have time to coordinate it.” This year with the help of Amy Nagel, who runs several organizations at Ontario High School, she decided to give it a try.
