MANSFIELD — The Huntington National Bank branch in downtown Mansfield and two branches in Crawford County will close in early 2019, according to a company spokesperson.

Two letters, dated Friday Oct. 5, were sent to customers based on the area they reside stating that the bank’s locations at 100 Park Ave. West in Mansfield and 350 N. Seltzer St. in Crestline will permanently shut down on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019.

Vice president of Media Relations, Emily Smith confirmed these details late Wednesday afternoon and added that the branch 101 S Sandusky in Bucyrus will also close in early 2019.

“Huntington regularly reviews its distribution network to ensure our mix of branches, ATMs, and online and mobile banking meets our customers’ evolving needs,” Smith said in an email statement. “In making these adjustments, branches were reviewed for customer traffic patterns, transaction trends and proximity to nearby Huntington branch locations.”

In a letter to Mansfield residents, executive vice president, Jon Greenwood suggested area customers continue banking with Huntington’s other Mansfield locations at 1468 Lexington Ave., 1277 Ashland Rd. or 2313 Village Park Court South. And Smith listed 260 Portland Way N. in Galion as an alternative location for Crawford County residents.

“Rest assured, you can continue to bank at any Huntington branch, including the nearby locations listed,” Greenwood wrote.

His letter also advised anyone with questions about the Mansfield branch closure is advised to contact its branch manager at 419-524-1876.

Crestline’s branch manager can be reached at 419-683-3737 and Bucyrus’s at 419-562-6886.

“One thing that will not change: Huntington bankers are committed to providing you with the very best service, every day,” Greenwood said in the letter. “As always, we appreciate your business and look forward to working with you for many years to come.”

Anyone who would like to comment on the proposed branch closings is asked to file comments with the Office of the Controller of the Currency, Central District Office, One Financial Place, 440 South LaSalle Street, Suite 2700, Chicago, Illinois 60605. Comments should be filed with the OCC by the date of the branch closing.

Greenwood’s letter notes that the OCC does not have the authority to approve or prevent a branch closing.

Earlier this week, other news outlets reported that Huntington Bank, headquartered in Columbus, was expected to close 70 branches in total with 30 in Ohio. Smith did not provide a full list of affected locations within the state, but she did confirm that no other locations in Richland, Ashland, Knox or Crawford counties would be closed.

The “vast majority” of employees at the downtown Mansfield, Crestline and Bucyrus branches are expected to be placed at other branches, Smith said.
