MANSFIELD — The public is invited to the 10th Anniversary Celebration of What Goes’ Round Thrift Shoppe at 113 N. Main St. in the Carrousel District of downtown Mansfield from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15.
On Sept. 4, 2008, What Goes ‘Round opened its doors under the management of Cindy McConnell to raise funds for Hospice of North Central Ohio (HNCO). Sixty-five volunteers helped that first year to reach sales of more than $100,000. In 2017, the Shoppe donated more than $150,000 to the care of HNCO’s patients and families.
“Paying it forward” was the force behind the Shoppe’s efforts then, and it continues to drive the operation 10 years later, as more than 90 volunteers now work there, many of whom were part of the original team.
From greeting customers to sorting through donated merchandise, displaying items, sizing clothing, and arranging for pick-ups, the volunteers operate the store almost exclusively. Current manager Deb Brown and assistant manager Sarah Bennett are the only paid employees of the organization.
“We are very proud of our 10-year commitment to Hospice of North Central Ohio as we have given a sizable amount of money over the years to help with patient care,” Brown said. “Our very energetic volunteers are the backbone of our success.”
An announcement of the total proceeds donated to Hospice of North Central Ohio throughout the store’s history will take place during the anniversary celebration.
The festivities will include food and drinks along with opportunities to win raffle prizes hourly. Prizes include a $50 gift certificate at 11 a.m., a $75 gift certificate at noon, a new Kitchen Aid mixer at 1 p.m., and any one item in the store at 2 p.m. Raffle tickets are currently on sale at the Shoppe for $1 each or six tickets for $5. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win.
What Goes ‘Round Thrift Shoppe offers an eclectic mix of upscale treasures including clothing, furniture, household items, and books. A new line of children’s clothing and toys has recently been added. Shoppe hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours are extended for the Mansfield Shop Hops.
The Thrift Shoppe receives donations throughout the year and provides a furniture pick-up service. To arrange a pick-up or learn about volunteering, call 419-522-2890 or stop in the Thrift Shoppe at 113 N. Main St. in the Carrousel District of Mansfield.
