MONROE TOWNSHIP — A Mount Vernon man was killed after his motorcycle was involved in a two-vehicle crash Saturday at approximately 1:25 p.m. on State Route 3 near mile post 23 in Monroe Township, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Lawrence H. Huffman, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene after the Patrol reported his purple, 1995 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle crossed the solid double yellow center-line and was struck by a vehicle operated by Raymond P. Cosner, 66, of Mount Vernon. Huffman was ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the impact. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Cosner, Patricia A. Cosner, 67, of Mount Vernon, and Brooklyn Hinger, 9, of Mount Vernon were also in the Cosner vehicle. Mr. Cosner was treated at the scene for non-incapacitating injuries. He was not wearing a safety belt. Neither Mrs. Cosner nor Hinger reported any injuries and both were wearing safety belts.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspects factors in the crash, the Patrol reported.
The Patrol was assisted by the Mount Vernon Fire Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
