ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Arie Lipsky have announced the 49th concert season will begin on Saturday, Sept. 8, with “Tchaikovsky’s Treasures.”

The program will feature critically acclaimed pianist Dr. Dror Biran and an all-Tchaikovsky program: the Polonaise from the opera “Eugene Onegin;” Piano Concerto, No.1, op.23, B-flat minor; and Symphony No.5, op.64, E minor.

“Heroic Haydn,” Saturday, Oct. 20 will feature the ASO’s own Kenneth Holzworth on trumpet. The concert opens with Petite symphonie by Charles Gounod followed by two pieces by Franz Joseph Haydn: Trumpet Concert, E-flat major and Symphony No.100, G major (Military Symphony).

The annual Family Holiday Pops takes place on Sunday, Nov. 25. Enjoy the warmth of the season with an evening of traditional carols and holiday favorites featuring the Ashland High School A Cappella Choir and other area choirs.

On Saturday, January 26, 2019, the ASO will perform the iconic music of John Williams in “The Music of Star Wars.”

The season continues Saturday, March 2 with “Mozart & Friends.” Symphony No.1, K.16, E-flat major and Symphony No.41, K551 C major (Jupiter) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart bookend the program.

Violinist Ilya Kaler joins the orchestra for La Primavera, E major (Spring) by Antonio Vivaldi; Zigeunerweisen, op.20 (Gypsy Airs) by Pablo de Sarasate; and the Theme from Schindler’s List by John Williams.

The ASO concludes the 2018-19 season with a virtual tour of Italy! “Viva Italia”, Saturday, April 13, features the Ashland Area Chorus and the Ashland University Choir singing choruses from Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Travatore, La Traviata, Nabucco, and Aida. The programs opens with La Forza del Destino: Overture by Verdi and concludes with Lagazza ladra: Overture by Gioachino Rossini; La Gioconda: Dance of the Hours by Amilcare Ponchielli; and Capriccio Italien by Tchaikovsky.

Season tickets are on sale now and three packages are available ranging in price from $15 to $24 for children and students, $51 to $102 for seniors, and $54 to $111 for adults. Past season subscribers should renew by July 31 to guarantee their seats from last year. Individual concert tickets will go on sale on Aug. 1.

Tickets are $24 for adults, $21 for seniors, and $5 for children/students. Tickets for the “Family Holiday Pops” and “The Music of Star Wars” are only $17 for adults and seniors.
